M&S launch white gold broccoli
They brought us the seedless pepper and the red super-sprout - now M&S boffins have come up with white gold broccoli, sweeter , more succulent than the green variety. Sounds ideal for a superfood Sunday lunch and encouraging kids to eat their greens.
It is not a new invention but M&S is the first store to bring back this heritage variety, which is sweeter and more succulent than the more common green or purple versions. The creamy white spears have a mild flavour and is just as packed with vitamin C as its green and purple counterparts and is a good source of caretenoids, iron, folic acid, calcium, fibre and vitamin A.
“We’re always working with our suppliers to find new fruit and vegetables and bring back forgotten old favourites," M&S produce expert Simon Coupe said. "We are sure our customers will love our White Gold Sprouting Broccoli and its sweeter, more succulent taste. Even kids who don’t like to eat their greens will love it.”
The brocolli is grown in Boston, Lincolnshire by specialist sprouting broccoli grower Richard Pettitt of Franklyn's Farm, where the soil are high in nutrients making it perfect for growing sprouting broccoli. It is available from M&S stores nationwide from next week priced at £1.99 for 200g.
