Foraging and French macaroons top 2012 food trends

Wednesday, 4 January 2012 12:51 PM

Foraging, French Macaroons and Moroccan cuisine - food goes through fads just like fashion and the team at My Secret Kitchen have unveiled their predictions for 2012. And despite spiralling food prices, it is time to get creative to save cash.

Foraging can revolutionise your palette but be sure to consult an expert before you start cooking. Wild garlic, edible mushrooms, nettles and berries are all freely available in UK hedgerows.

Moroccan is a low-cost, special occasion option, ideal for entertaining. Dishes are full of spices and flavours, a healthy diet with grain and greens with not too many expensive ingredients. Expect 2012 to see a full blown launch of all things North African.

South American is another hot prospect and Peru is widely predicted to be the big flavour country for 2012, so My Secret Kitchen expect this to jump over to the UK along with Brazil for 2012. And the food goes superbly with Caipirinhas...

Finally, if 2011 was the year of the Whoopie Pie, an attractive and fun filled cake, 2012 is the turn of French macaroons for afternoon teas and stylish wedding receptions.
