Traditional desserts 'more popular with men'

Monday, 7 November 2011 9:19 AM

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach and, if you are looking to impress with dessert, traditional puds are the way to go. Spotted dick, jam roly-poly and bread and butter pudding topped a poll of 3,000 Brits.

The survey for Crown Carveries found that, by contrast, women preferred crème brûlée, waffles and tiramisu.

If you are looking for a dessert to please both sexes, the poll found blancmange, treacle tart and jelly and ice cream are popular with men and women. Cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake also rated highly.

And if you need an excuse to opt for something sweet, this Wednesday is British Pudding Day.

Crown Carveries spokesman Chris Brewer said that the poll "proves that the food fads of recent years are now taking a back seat as we all search for a bit of nostalgia in our home lives and on our pudding plates".
