Most mums still in charge in the kitchen

The balance of power in the household is still straight from the 1950s - at least when it comes to the kitchen! A poll by Sainsbury’s magazine found most mums are in charge of feeding the family, doing the cooking AND the washing up at home.

Sainsbury’s magazine's Dishy Dads survey asked 2000 people for their views, finding that just one in 10 dads take sole responsibility for cooking for the family, compared to 65% of mums!

A measly 5% of men are helping out by doing the shopping, whilst nearly half are strangers to the rubber gloves when it comes to washing up.

“Here at Sainsbury’s magazine we’re shocked by these results,” says editor Helena Lang. “For years I’ve heard men boasting about how they make the better cooks. It’s all very well commanding pole position at the barbecue, or carving the turkey at Christmas, but what about the limitless meals that have to be put on the kitchen table day after day? Come on, British Dads… show us how ‘dishy’ you really are!”
